ECOLOGICAL LIST

-Turn off the lights when you don't need them.
-Close the tap when you don't use it.
-Use the bus instead of using a car.
-Walk instead of using a vehicle.
-Recycle al the things you can.
-Buy reusable bags instead of using a lot of plastic bags that you only can use them one time.
-Use cars that spend very little of fuel.
-Use electric cars.
-Use electricity produced by solar panels.

UNIT TWO

-Temperature: the degree of hotness of a body, substance, or medium; a physical property related to the average kinetic energy of the atoms or molecules of a substance.
-Savannah: open grasslands, usually with scattered bushes or trees, characteristic of much of tropical Africa.
-Oases: a fertile patch in a desert occurring where the water table approaches or reaches the ground surface.
-Taiga: the coniferous forests extending across much of subarctic North America and Eurasia, bordered by tundra to the north and steppe to the south.
-Precipitation: rain, snow, sleet, dew, etc, formed by condensation of water vapour in the atmosphere.
-Tundra: a vast treeless zone lying between the ice cap and the timberline of North America and Eurasia and having a permanently frozen subsoil.
-Settlement: the establishment of a new region; colonization.
-Jungle: an equatorial forest area with luxuriant vegetation, often almost impenetrable.
-Livestock: cattle, horses, poultry, and similar animals kept for domestic use but not as pets, esp on a farm or ranch.
-Desert: a region that is devoid or almost devoid of vegetation, esp because of low rainfall.
-Steppe: an extensive grassy plain usually without trees.
-Holm oak: an evergreen Mediterranean oak tree.
-Reciduous forest: (of trees and shrubs) shedding all leaves annually at the end of the growing season and then having a dormant period without leaves.
-Evergreen: (of certain trees and shrubs) bearing foliage throughout the year; continually shedding and replacing leaves.
-Forest: a large wooded area having a thick growth of trees and plants.
-Meadows: an area of grassland, often used for hay or for grazing of animals.
-Drought: a prolonged period of scanty rainfall.
-Sandstorm: a strong wind that whips up clouds of sand.
-Flood: the inundation of land that is normally dry through the overflowing of a body of water.
-Acid rain: rain that contains a high concentration of pollutants, chiefly sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide, released into the atmosphere by the burning of fossil fuels such as coal or oil.
-Tsunami: a large, often destructive, sea wave produced by a submarine earthquake, subsidence, or volcanic eruption. Sometimes incorrectly called a tidal wave.
-Hurricane: a severe, often destructive storm.

GEOGRAPHY GLOSSARY!!!!!!!!

UNIT ONE

-Inlet: A thin channel of water that leads inland from the sea. Inlets created by glaciation are called fjords and are usually found on montainous coastlines.
-Headland: A small area of land that projects out into the sea.
-Peninsula: A large scale headland surrounded by water on three sides. A peninsula can be connected to the land by a thin stretch of land called isthmus.
-Island: A piece of land completely surrounded by water.
-Gulf: An area of sea surrounded by land on three sides. A bay is similar but smaller.
-Oceanic ridge: An underwater mountain range that generally covers a large area and reaches high altitudes.
-Oceanic trench: A long depression on the ocean floor that can be thousands of meters deep.
-Abyssal plain: A flat area of the ocean floor. They are found at depths of between 3000 and 7000 meters.
-Continental shelf: The undersea extension of a continent that descends gradually to depths of around 400m. The shelf might extend for only a few kilometers under the sea, or it may extend for many.
-Continental slope: A steep underwater area that links the continental shelf with the ocean floor.
-Mountain: A large landform that is higher than thee surrounding land. A mountain range is a continuous chain of mountains.
-Basin: An area of land that is drained by a river or a lake and that is lower than the surrounding area.
-Valley: Is a linear depression in the land.
-Plateau: A flat area of land which sits at a certain altitude above sea level.
-Plain: A large, open, flat or slightly undulating are of land.
-Lagoon: An area of shallow water separated from the sea by low sandy dunes.
-Massif: A compact portion of a mountain range, containing one or more summits.
-Delta: An arm or inlet of the sea at the lower end of a river.
-Cliff: A high steep face of a rock.
-Tributary: A stream that flows to a larger stream or other body of water.



RECYCLING PROGRAM IN HONG KONG

The Environment Protection of Hong Kong will start a recycling program.
This program consists on recycling computers for the poor people that can't buy a new one. Also, they have Internet.
Only it is free for one year, when this period ends, they have to pay, but a very little quantity.

EXPRESSIONS
  
-Lost for words: If you are shock and you can't speak.
-If you have a flash of inspiration: It means that you get a sudden idea that helps you to create or achieve what you were hoping to do.
-A big fish in a small pond: It means that he/she is very important or have a lot of influence but only in a small area or group.
-Cold fish: If someone is unfriendly and doesn't show his/her feelings emotions.
-Packed like sardines: To describe people in a very crowded space.
-Chock a block: For example, the streets are chock a block with cars today, it means the streets are full of cars.
-Like a duck to water: It means that you discover when you start doing a new activity that you are very good at it.
-To pass a law: "Aprobar una ley".
-To blow your own trumpet: If you are boasting about your achievements and your abilities.
-To have a bee in your bonet: If you are obssessed with it and can´t stop thinking about it.
-It´s in someone´s genes: When that person has the same personality traits as their parents, or does a similar job.
-If you scratch my back, I will scratch yours: It means if you do something for me, I will do something for you, especially if it is to do for yourself.
-He does not have a hair out of place: It means their appearence is very tidy or is perfect.
