EXPRESSIONS WITHOUT CATHEGORY
-To take the bull by the horns: Means to deal with a difficult situation in a brave way.
-Two heads are better than one: Means that when two people work together, they are more likely to solve a problem tahn one person doing it alone.
-To keep your head above the water: Means you are just managing to survive despite not having much money.
-Follow in you footsteps: To do exactly what you want, following steps.
-To be in a good mood: To be very happy
-There are plenty more fish in the sea: It means that there are other choices in a situation.
-It's just not cricket: It is used to say that something is unfair or dishonest.
-To toy with (somebody or something): Means not to take someone's feelings seriously.
-A toyboy: Is the younger boyfriend of an older person.
-Like a ton of bricks: It is used to express someting that is very heavy. This espression can be used literrally (to describe heavy weight), or idiomatically (to describe a great surprise or someone that is overwheight)
-To fly the nest: Means to leave your parents' home for the first time to go and live somewhere else.
-I wasn't born yesterday: If someone is telling you a very obvious lie.
-To have a whale of time: Means to have a lot of fun while doing something.
-Size of whale: It is an impolite way of saying someone is large.
-A little bird told me: If you have some some information but you don't want to reveal who told you.
-To be or to have big mouth: It means you talk too much especially about things which should be kept in secret or avoided.
-All the colours of the rainbow: It means it is very colorful.
-Chasing rainbows: Refers to someone who is always looking for something more exciting and rewarding but is unlikely to find it.
-If you are playing with fire: If you are doing something which could be dangerous.
-If you add fuel to the fire: It means you make a bad situation even worse.
FOOD EXPRESSIONS
-Full of beans: Full of energy.
-I haven't got a bean: You don't have money.
-Spill the beans: If you want someone to tell you a secret.
-It's a hot potatoe: If there is a delicate issue and people can't agree.
-They're like two peas in a pod: If two people are very similar.
-It's not my cup of tea: If there's something we don't like much.
-I wouldn't do it for all the tea in China: You never do it, whatever they give you.
-It's as good as a chocolate teapot: If something is completelly useless.
-He's gone bananas: If someone is very emotional and starts shouting and behaving in a crazy way.
-It's a case of sour grapes: If somebody pretends not to be impressed by something because she/he feels jealous.
-A second bite of the cherry: If we try to do something a second time because we failed at first.
-The icing on the cake: It is used to refer to something good which is added to an already good thing or situation.
-A nest egg: Is an amount of money you have saved in the future.
-Take it with a pinch of salt: When you don't know something and you must be careful with it.
-To be a bad egg: To be bad or dishonest.
-To pull all your eggs in one basket: To rely on only one plan.
-To get egg on your face: To make an embarrasing mistake.
